How account creation works on Localyn today.
Guests can browse marketplace listings and events without an account.
Creating an account uses Localyn’s account creation flow with state-based onboarding. Secure sign-in across devices, email verification, and password recovery continue to expand in future updates.
Some features are available only to signed-in members in the states Localyn currently supports.
- Getting Started
Search and browse without signing in.
Open Marketplace from the navigation or homepage search to browse nearby listings.
You can filter by distance (mile radius or statewide), category, and price. Distance uses approximate city/county locations — Localyn does not show street addresses or raw map coordinates on public listing cards.
Listing cards stay compact so you can scan quickly; open a listing for full details, photos, seller info, and messaging.
- Getting Started
Create Listing from your member tools.
Signed-in members can open Create Listing from the member homepage, My Account, or My Listings.
Choose Looking to buy something when you want a buyer request instead of a sale listing.
You’ll add photos, title, price, category, condition, description, and a public city/county location.
Published listings are saved to your Localyn account so you can view, edit, and see them in marketplace results across devices.
- Getting Started
Post what you want to find locally — not an item for sale.
Looking to Buy lets you post what you want to find locally — it is a buyer request, not an item for sale. Neighbors who may have it can tap I may have one to message you through Localyn.
- Getting Started
Active for 30 days; mark Found or renew from My Listings.
Active requests stay visible for 30 days, then expire unless renewed. You can edit, mark Found, or delete the request from My Listings.
- Getting Started
Share yard sales and community gatherings.
Use Post an Event to share a local event such as a yard sale, market, or community gathering.
You’ll set the basics, date and time, location area, and optional details. Yard sales can link to your active listings when available.
Like listings, event publishing saves to your Localyn account when you’re signed in.
- Getting StartedFuture update
Talk about listings, Online Yard Sales, and events.
Open a listing, Online Yard Sale, or event and choose Message Seller or the organizer message action to start a conversation tied to that post (signed-in), or send a one-time guest inquiry if you are not signed in.
Looking to Buy responses use Localyn messaging and require a Localyn account — guest inquiries are not available for buyer requests.
Messages live under Messages in signed-in navigation. Conversations stay tied to the specific listing, Online Yard Sale, or event so different items and topics stay separate.
Messaging works for signed-in members. Push notifications and email alerts will expand in future updates.
- Buying Safely
Meet publicly and inspect before you pay.
Localyn is an online platform connecting community members. It does not process payments or guarantee listings, sellers, buyers, products, services, payment, delivery, or transaction outcomes. Members remain responsible for their own decisions.
Descriptions and photographs are supplied by members. Localyn cannot guarantee condition, authenticity, ownership, legality, availability, or pricing accuracy, and cannot review every listing before it is published.
Meet in a public place whenever possible. Inspect the item before paying whenever possible. Trust your instincts and stop if something feels wrong.
If you pay electronically, prefer methods with buyer protection when appropriate. Avoid sending money before you’ve verified the item and the seller.
Report suspicious activity using the reporting options on a listing, member profile, or Help Center when those tools are available.
- Selling Successfully
Clear photos, honest details, friendly communication.
Use a clear title, honest condition, fair price, and a short description that answers the questions a neighbor would ask.
Add photos that show the real item. Prefer public meetups and keep communication on Localyn when you can.
Manage your posts from My Listings on the member dashboard. For a single listing, mark it sold or archive it when it is no longer available. For an Online Yard Sale, complete each buyer transaction separately — see “Online Yard Sales.”
Standard Localyn listings remain free. Optional Premium Listings promotion is planned later — see “Premium Listings.”
- Selling Successfully
Sell multiple items — complete each buyer separately.
An Online Yard Sale groups several items on one marketplace page. Buyers message you about specific items through conversations tied to that sale.
When a sale with one buyer is finished, the seller can choose Complete transaction in that conversation. That records the transaction for that buyer only. Your Online Yard Sale stays active, and other buyer conversations are unchanged.
End Online Yard Sale is different: it removes the whole sale from ordinary marketplace discovery. You can edit and republish later. Ending the sale is not the same as completing one buyer transaction.
After an eligible completed Online Yard Sale transaction, the buyer and seller may each leave one review. Those reviews use Localyn’s normal marketplace review system and count toward each member’s Trust Summary, ratings, and public review history — the same way as other eligible marketplace reviews.
See also “Trust & reviews” and the Review Policy.
- Trust & Reviews
Reputation should reflect real transactions.
Trust is built by the community. Honest reviews help recognize excellent members, encourage respectful transactions, and keep Localyn a welcoming place to buy, sell, and connect.
Ratings and reviews on Localyn are meant to reflect eligible marketplace interactions — not something you can buy, and not a score for simply visiting a profile.
They represent the experiences and opinions of members who met Localyn’s review eligibility requirements. Consider them together with other available information; they are not a certification or guarantee.
Eligible reviews include standard listing interactions and completed Online Yard Sale transactions. Online Yard Sale reviews use the same marketplace review system and Trust Summary as other eligible marketplace reviews.
Public profiles can show a Trust Summary, rating summaries, recent reviews, and active listings.
For a plain-English explanation, see “What does the Trust Summary mean?” For badges and Trust Score details, see “Understanding Localyn badges and Trust Scores.”
Earning reviews through real completed transactions — including Online Yard Sale buyer transactions — helps keep Localyn’s trust system meaningful.
- Trust & Reviews
One helpful tool for evaluating neighbors — not a Localyn guarantee.
The Trust Summary is one tool for evaluating members on Localyn. It is meant to help you make informed decisions — not to promise how a person will behave.
It combines available trust information within Localyn. Depending on what is shown for a member, that can include eligible reviews, Overall / Seller / Buyer ratings, Trust Score, marketplace and account history, participation history, and badges.
Think of it as a neighborhood checklist, not a certificate. It is not a warranty, endorsement, or prediction of future behavior.
Always use good judgment. Read recent reviews, look at the full picture, inspect items when you meet, and stop if something feels off.
For badge details and how Trust Score relates to optional identity verification, see “Understanding Localyn badges and Trust Scores.”
- Trust & Reviews
Identity is optional. Trust is earned. Badges provide recognition and context — not special privileges.
Localyn shows a Trust Summary so neighbors can weigh several signals together: Trust Score, ratings, transaction history, account standing, and any badges a member has earned. No single badge or number guarantees a safe transaction.
Your Trust Score reflects reputation signals available within Localyn — such as marketplace activity, eligible reviews, account history, and good standing. Identity verification is separate and optional.
Identity is optional. Trust is earned.
Members may use Localyn and build an excellent reputation without providing government identification.
Choosing not to verify identity never adds a negative label such as “unverified.” That badge simply does not appear.
Official staff badges
Founder, Administrator, and Moderator are official Localyn staff badges. They identify real people managing the community and are derived from Localyn staff roles — not community achievement badges.
Display order places staff badges first: Founder, then Administrator, then Moderator, then community badges.
Founder
Official Founder of Localyn.
Reserved exclusively for the creator of Localyn. Only one account should display this badge. It is historical recognition only — not an endorsement of marketplace quality — and does not provide special marketplace privileges, improve Trust Score, bypass moderation, or guarantee trustworthiness.
Founder is assigned deliberately through Localyn’s staff role system. It is never granted automatically from signup order, account age, or the first account created.
Administrator
Official Localyn Administrator.
Identifies a Localyn staff member with administrator responsibilities. The badge updates automatically when the staff role changes and is not a community achievement badge.
Moderator
Official Localyn Moderator.
Identifies a Localyn staff member who helps keep the community safe and fair. The badge updates automatically when the staff role changes and is not a community achievement badge.
Founding Member
Recognized for helping build the Localyn community during its founding period.
Reserved for early Localyn supporters selected by the Founder or an authorized administrator. Multiple members may receive this badge. It is never awarded automatically and is not based solely on account creation date.
It is independent of staff roles. It is not an endorsement of marketplace quality. It does not mean the member completed identity verification, guarantee a particular reputation, or provide special marketplace privileges.
Identity Verified
This member has completed Localyn Identity Verification.
Identity verification is voluntary. When available, it will be completed through an approved third-party provider. Localyn will not perform the identity check itself.
The badge means Localyn successfully verified certain identity information. It confirms that identity check only — not character or marketplace behavior. Raw identification documents are not displayed to other members.
It does not mean the member is trusted by Localyn, endorsed by Localyn, financially reliable, safe, honest, qualified, or recommended.
Members without this badge receive no negative label. Verification does not guarantee safe or successful transactions, and it does not replace reviews, ratings, reports, transaction history, or account standing.
Identity verification is not available yet. A one-time fee will apply to cover the third-party identity check; final pricing will be shown before verification begins. Payment and ID upload are not available yet.
Trust Score
Trust Score represents earned marketplace reputation signals and is separate from identity verification.
As Localyn matures, the production score may consider objective, documented signals such as verified listing interactions, completed transactions (including Online Yard Sale buyer transactions), buyer and seller reviews, account history, response reliability, account standing, and confirmed policy violations. The exact formula is still being developed and is not published as final weightings here.
Trust Score does not guarantee safety. Members may earn a strong score without identity verification. Verified identity alone does not create a strong score.
Localyn does not treat Trust Score as AI-generated, and private message content is not analyzed to produce the score.
Trust Summary
The Trust Summary is intended to help members make informed decisions. It is generated from information available within Localyn and is not a certification, warranty, guarantee, endorsement, or prediction of future behavior.
Use the complete Trust Summary — Trust Score, ratings, history, and badges — rather than relying on any single badge or number. See also “What does the Trust Summary mean?”
Friendly safety guidance
Review ratings and transaction history. Read recent reviews. Inspect items before paying when appropriate. Meet safely in public places. Use payment methods with suitable buyer protection when appropriate. Report suspicious activity.
- Marketplace Rules
Be honest, lawful, and respectful.
List only items you have the right to sell. Describe them honestly. Follow local, state, and federal law. Descriptions and photographs are supplied by members.
Buyers should inspect items before purchase whenever possible. Localyn cannot guarantee condition, authenticity, ownership, legality, availability, or pricing accuracy, and cannot review every listing before publication.
Firearms listings are strictly prohibited on Localyn. Do not post firearms or attempt to work around that rule.
No scams, no fraudulent listings, and no harassment. Sponsored or promoted content will be clearly labeled when advertising tools launch after the public marketplace.
See the Terms of Service, Community Standards, and Prohibited Items Policy for full expectations. Firearm listings are strictly prohibited; lawful archery, crossbows where permitted, hunting gear, and outdoor sporting goods remain allowed when otherwise lawful.
- EventsFuture update
Discover and post what’s happening nearby.
Browse Events to find yard sales, markets, and community gatherings near you. Localyn provides a platform for organizers; unless an event is explicitly identified as Localyn-sponsored, Localyn does not organize, supervise, inspect, certify, guarantee, or endorse individual events.
Attendance is at your own discretion. Organizers remain responsible for accuracy, permits, safety, and legal compliance.
Members can post events and manage them from My Events. Guests can browse without an account.
Event alerts, advanced RSVP tools, and production event hosting features are planned after the core experience is solid.
- Managing Your Account
My Account, member home, and public profile.
After you sign in, Member Homepage (`/home`) is your hometown dashboard — nearby listings, your listings and events, saved items, and quick actions.
My Account is where you manage listings, events, settings, privacy preferences, email preferences, notification preferences, security, and help. Use My Account → Following to manage members you follow.
Your public profile (`/users/me` when signed in) is what other members can see — including active listings when you allow it in Privacy settings, and follower/following counts and lists where shown.
Signed-in navigation includes Home, Marketplace, Events, Messages, and account shortcuts. Guest browsing stays available without an account.
Ordinary personal accounts remain free. Optional Business Accounts for local businesses are planned later — see “Business Accounts.”
- Managing Your Account
How to delete your account from My Account, or request deletion if you cannot sign in.
If you can sign in, open My Account → Delete Account, confirm with your password, and complete the final confirmation. That flow removes your authentication account and associated profile/content as described in the Privacy Policy.
If you cannot access your account or the app, use the public Account Deletion page at /delete-account, submit Contact with the Privacy or data request category, or email privacy@golocalyn.com.
Some records may be retained or anonymized after deletion (for example reviews, messages visible to other participants, transactions, and support or moderation records). See Privacy Policy → Account deletion for details.
- Managing Your AccountFuture update
Optional paid tools for local businesses — personal accounts stay free.
Business Accounts will offer optional paid tools for local businesses. Features, eligibility, and pricing will be announced before enrollment opens.
Ordinary personal accounts remain free. Members do not need a Business Account to use standard Localyn marketplace and community features.
No business subscription or payment is currently available. Business-related pages on Localyn explain the future offering and may collect interest — they do not enroll you or charge you today.
- Managing Your Account
Follow sellers and organizers you want to hear from.
Signed-in members can follow sellers and event organizers from their public profile, listing, Online Yard Sale, or event pages.
Following a member is different from saving a listing or event. Save bookmarks a specific post for your Saved Listings or Saved Events lists. Follow tracks the member — not just one post.
When someone you follow first publishes a new listing, Online Yard Sale, or event, Localyn may notify you in the app. That alert applies to first publish only — editing an existing post or republishing later is not the same as a new first-publish notification.
Manage who you follow from My Account → Following. Public profiles can show follower and following counts; open those links to see the lists where available.
Follow notifications are separate from saved-listing or saved-event update alerts.
- Privacy
Public location stays at city/county level.
Listings show a privacy-safe public location such as city and county — not your street address.
Use My Account → Privacy to control what appears on your public profile. Additional privacy controls will expand in future updates.
Read the Privacy Policy for how Localyn thinks about information collection, messages, cookies, and your controls. Public listing cards show city/county-style locations — not street addresses or raw coordinates.
To delete your Localyn account, see Help → Delete your Localyn account, or open the public Account Deletion page at /delete-account.
- Reporting Listings
Flag listings that break the rules.
Report Listing is available on listing detail pages. Use it when a listing appears fraudulent, prohibited, unsafe, or otherwise violates Localyn’s policies.
On a Looking to Buy request, use Report buyer request for scams, misleading requests, or prohibited items.
Submitted reports are reviewed, but submitting a report does not guarantee a particular outcome or response time. Localyn support and moderation are not monitored 24/7.
Localyn is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
For general support, visit Contact Us or email hello@golocalyn.com. The staff-only /admin/support inbox receives Contact Localyn form submissions; it is not a public support page.
- Reporting Members
Report harassment or unsafe behavior.
Report Member is available on public member profile pages. Use it if someone is threatening, harassing, unsafe, or otherwise breaking Localyn’s Community Standards.
Keep evidence in the conversation when you can, and do not continue engaging with someone who makes you feel unsafe.
Submitted reports are reviewed, but submitting a report does not guarantee a particular outcome or response time. Localyn support and moderation are not monitored 24/7.

- Frequently Asked Questions
Use Message Seller on a listing.
Open a listing and choose Message Seller. Signed-in members open a Localyn conversation. Visitors who aren’t signed in can send a one-time guest inquiry without creating an account — that introduction is not a full conversation and does not send email.
- Frequently Asked Questions
Use Create Listing from member tools.
Use Create Listing from My Account or the member homepage to add photos, price, and details. The flow saves to your Localyn account when you’re signed in.
- Frequently Asked Questions
Manage items from My Listings.
Open My Account → My Listings to review your items. For a single listing, use Edit Listing to update it and Mark sold or archive when you are done. For an Online Yard Sale, complete each buyer transaction separately — see “Online Yard Sales.”
- Frequently Asked Questions
Eligible member experiences — not for sale.
Honest reviews help neighbors buy, sell, and connect with confidence. They help recognize excellent members and encourage respectful transactions across Localyn.
Ratings and reviews reflect the experiences and opinions of members who met Localyn’s review eligibility requirements. They are not something you can buy, and they are not a Localyn guarantee.
Localyn does not edit reviews merely because people disagree. Reviews may be removed when they violate Community Standards or applicable law.
Eligible reviews include standard listing interactions and completed Online Yard Sale transactions. After an eligible completed Online Yard Sale transaction, the buyer and seller may each leave one review for that buyer conversation. Those reviews use the same marketplace review system and Trust Summary as other eligible marketplace reviews.

Complete each buyer separately; reviews use Trust Summary.
An Online Yard Sale lets you sell multiple items on one page. When a sale with one buyer is finished, the seller chooses Complete transaction in that buyer’s conversation.
Completing one transaction does not end the Online Yard Sale or affect other buyers. End Online Yard Sale removes the whole sale from discovery and is a separate action.
After an eligible completed transaction, the buyer and seller may each leave one review. Those reviews use Localyn’s normal marketplace review system and count toward Trust Summary like other eligible marketplace reviews.
See “Online Yard Sales” under Selling Successfully for the full explanation.
