Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Localyn LLC (“Localyn,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Localyn website and related services. Localyn is a United States local marketplace and community platform, available in the states Localyn currently supports rather than nationwide.

This policy aims to describe actual and reasonably anticipated practices — not marketing promises.

Public mailing address: Localyn LLC, 614 North Centre St, Unit #1012, Cumberland, MD 21502, United States. Privacy contact: privacy@golocalyn.com. General support: hello@golocalyn.com.

Information members and visitors provide

Depending on how you use Localyn, you may provide:

  • Name and email address
  • Password / authentication credentials (handled by our authentication provider)
  • Profile photo, bio, and home state / county / city preferences
  • ZIP code and related location fields used for geocoding or home-area settings (exact coordinates are treated as private operational data where stored)
  • Listings, listing photos, Online Yard Sale posts and photos, Looking to Buy requests (title, description, optional budget, optional reference photo, and approximate location), events, event photos, tournament result drafts, messages, and message images
  • Reviews and related marketplace interaction records
  • Member follow relationships (who you follow and, where shown, who follows you)
  • Saved listings, saved Online Yard Sales, and saved events
  • Reports about listings, Looking to Buy requests, or members, and Contact Localyn support requests
  • Waitlist information (email, optional first name, home state/county, referral notes) and invitation records, where Localyn offers invitation-based access
  • Age attestation and policy acceptance records (Terms, Privacy Policy, and Community Standards versions and timestamps)
  • Email preference settings
  • Guest inquiry name, email, phone number (when provided), and message for a public listing or event — shared privately with the owner/organizer, not displayed publicly
  • Newsletter or business-interest form submissions when those forms are used

Information collected automatically

When you use Localyn, systems may automatically collect:

  • IP address and related request metadata used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security (often processed in-memory and not stored as a durable member profile field)
  • Device, browser, and operating system information
  • Pages viewed, search activity, and interaction data needed to operate the product
  • Cookies and similar technologies for authentication/session, preferences, and security
  • Browser localStorage / sessionStorage values used for guest browse location, anonymous listing-view identifiers/hashes, and certain device-local preferences
  • Log files, error reports, and security events
  • Cloudflare Turnstile tokens for guest inquiry abuse prevention (verified server-side)

Location information

Localyn distinguishes approximate public labels (such as city/county or a member-written location label) from private exact coordinates used for distance calculations and geocoding.

Public listing, event, Looking to Buy, and profile surfaces are intended to show approximate area labels — not home street addresses or raw GPS coordinates in the UI. Members should not publish home street addresses in public fields.

If you use “Use My Current Location,” your device may provide precise coordinates to Localyn’s geocoding path for labeling and distance. Precise device location is not required to browse.

Private listing, event, Online Yard Sale, and Looking to Buy location details may be stored for organizers/owners and for operational distance features. Exact coordinates may still exist in underlying database rows for operational reasons even when not shown in the UI.

Meetup street addresses should be exchanged privately by members when needed.

How information is used

We use information to operate Localyn: provide accounts; display listings, Online Yard Sales, and events; power location and radius search; enable messaging and guest inquiries; support reviews and trust features; process reports and moderation; operate member follow features and send follower notifications when a followed member first publishes certain content; run Contact Localyn support; operate waitlist and invitation flows where offered; send authentication and (when enabled) activity, support-notify, or invitation emails; improve safety and fraud prevention; secure the service; meet legal obligations; and improve the product.

How information is shared

Information may be shared in limited ways, including: public information you intentionally post; other members as needed for marketplace interactions (for example, a guest inquiry sent to a seller); service providers that help operate Localyn; legal authorities when required; professional advisers; parties to a corporate transaction; and others with your consent.

Localyn shares operational data with infrastructure providers as needed to run the service. Localyn does not claim that it “never shares” personal information with any third party.

Words such as “sell,” “share,” and “targeted advertising” can have special meanings under state privacy laws. Localyn does not currently operate a dedicated third-party advertising or behavioral-analytics product.

Service providers currently used

Provider enablement can vary by environment. Features that are off by default are not described here as always active.

Localyn uses (or is configured to use) the following categories of providers:

  • Supabase — authentication, database, and file storage
  • Hosting provider for the Localyn web application (for example, Vercel when deployed there)
  • Resend — transactional email sending when delivery is enabled (authentication email may also use Resend via Supabase Auth SMTP)
  • Cloudflare Turnstile — guest inquiry abuse prevention
  • Google Workspace — human support mailbox for hello@golocalyn.com and related aliases
  • Optional geocoding providers (for example Mapbox) — only when a geocoding provider is enabled; default is off (seed place lookup only)
  • Optional AI provider for Fishing Tournament results extraction — only when an AI provider is enabled; default is off; organizers review results before publication

Public content

Listings, Online Yard Sales (when live), public profiles, reviews, events, public usernames, profile photos, approximate locations, follower and following counts (and related public follow lists where shown), and other intentionally public information may be visible to guests and, where applicable, search engines.

Public content may be copied, indexed, shared, or cached by others. Localyn cannot promise complete removal from every third-party search engine or archive after deletion.

Messages, guest inquiries, and messaging images

Signed-in messages are visible to conversation participants. Message images are stored in private messaging storage associated with conversations.

Messages may be accessed or preserved for reports, safety, fraud prevention, support, legal compliance, and system security. Localyn does not promise that messages are anonymous or end-to-end encrypted.

Guest inquiries may include a phone number when the visitor provides one. They are shared privately with the listing owner or event organizer, are not Localyn message threads, and are not emailed by Localyn as a relay.

Retention of messages and messaging images may continue after interface deletion or account deletion where conversations are retained for counterparties, as described below.

Reviews and trust metrics

Reviews are member opinions associated with eligible marketplace interactions. Trust Summary and Trust Score signals are informational and may be incomplete or inaccurate.

Completed-transaction indicators reflect Localyn workflow records and are not proof of legal completion of a sale.

Listing views and saves

Localyn may record unique listing views for signed-in members and for anonymous viewers using a hashed or tokenized identifier stored on the device. Saves and related engagement records may also be stored for product features.

Support requests, reports, and moderation

Contact Localyn submissions are stored in Localyn’s support inbox so staff can review them. Email notify to staff may be queued separately and is only sent when support email delivery is enabled.

Listing and member reports are stored for moderation. Staff with appropriate capabilities can review support and moderation records in admin tools.

Support requests and moderation/audit records may be retained after account deletion (for example, with the requester user id cleared) for safety, fraud prevention, and operational needs.

Waitlist and invitations

If you join a waitlist (when offered) or receive a personal invitation, Localyn stores your email and any optional details you submit, plus invitation and related email-job records used to operate those access flows.

Age and policy attestations provided during waitlist join or account creation are stored with version identifiers and timestamps.

Email systems

Localyn uses several email paths that should not be confused:

  • Authentication emails (signup confirmation, password reset, email change) via Supabase Auth — required for account security
  • Invitation and waitlist admin notifications — queued; sent only when invitation email delivery is enabled
  • Support staff notifications — queued; sent only when support email delivery is enabled
  • Member activity emails (inquiries, messages, event updates, reminders, reviews) — queued; sent only when activity email delivery is enabled
  • Account-security style notices may appear in-app; not all security events currently send email

Email preferences

Signed-in members can manage certain activity email categories in account settings. Required authentication and account-security communications cannot be turned off through those preferences.

Activity email delivery may be disabled even if preferences are on. Preferences do not force Localyn to send mail while delivery flags are off.

Cookies and local device storage

Localyn uses essential cookies and similar technologies for session state, authentication, preferences, and security.

Localyn also uses browser localStorage and sessionStorage for certain guest browse settings, anonymous view identifiers, and device-local preferences. Clearing site data may reset those items.

Localyn does not currently use a dedicated third-party advertising or behavioral-analytics product.

Data retention

Localyn retains information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy — such as active accounts, listings, events, messages, reviews, reports, support requests, safety and fraud records, legal records, and backups.

Deleting content or an account in the interface does not always mean immediate or permanent erasure from all systems.

Account deletion

Account deletion is available in My Account for signed-in members.

When deletion completes, Localyn typically archives or removes your public listings from ordinary discovery, cancels or archives your events as implemented, ends Online Yard Sales you operate, anonymizes your public profile (for example, “Deleted Member”), removes your authentication account, removes public media objects where implemented, and frees your email address for later signup.

Localyn may retain or anonymize records that other members or operations still need, including conversations and message images; reviews and rating history that remain associated with counterparties; sale/transaction workflow records; support requests; reports and moderation or audit records; and other legally or operationally necessary information.

You lose access to your account and your public Trust Summary, but reviews you left or received are not necessarily erased from the system for everyone else.

Data security

Localyn uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information and stage of operation, including provider-managed password hashing, transport encryption, access controls, and secret management practices.

No online service is perfectly secure. Localyn does not claim unhackable systems or certifications it has not obtained.

Member choices and rights

Depending on available features, you may update account information, location preferences, notification preferences, email preferences, delete certain content, and delete your account.

Privacy requests may be sent to privacy@golocalyn.com. Some records may be retained for legal, security, fraud-prevention, transactional, or safety reasons.

State privacy rights

Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable law. Not all users have identical statutory rights. Localyn will review state privacy-law applicability as it expands.

Children’s privacy

Localyn accounts are limited to individuals who are at least 18 years old. Localyn is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly permit accounts from children.

An age attestation is not the same as identity or age verification.

A parent or guardian may contact privacy@golocalyn.com if they believe a child provided personal information. Localyn may delete or restrict such information and accounts.

International use

Localyn is designed as a United States local marketplace. This policy does not imply intentional availability or compliance in every country.
